Eye Insurance
The best form of eye insurance is taking care of your eyes and vision to the best of your ability. Eye coverage itself is often taken for granted amongst the other types of insurance, as is the idea of taking better care of your eyes being the best eye insurance of all.
To take advantage of such eye insurance, first you have to be aware of several conditions that can affect your vision, the first being Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Obviously, this comes from focusing your eyes on a computer screen for too long or too much. Several symptoms include blurred vision, dry eyes, eyestrain, glare sensitivity, headaches, and neck and shoulder pain. Combat these by blinking a lot and every 20 minutes spend 20 seconds staring at something 20 feet away, keeping the right lighting, keeping your monitor at least 20 inches away with its center 4 or 5 inches below your field of vision, or getting prescribed a pair of glasses just for using your computer.
Another good method of eye insurance is learning to deal with nighttime glare while driving. An oncoming car or street light might blind with its lights, but you can’t ignore it. You may get into an accident. To deal with nighttime glares better get a complete eye exam every year, when choosing glasses or lenses choose an anti-reflective coating, and be extra careful when driving at night. Your eyes might very well be tired. Take that into consideration as well as the fact that you might have a whole day at work tomorrow reading or looking at a computer screen.
A good form of eye insurance and protection remains eating better. While eating a lot of carrots won’t help your vision, carrots contain a lot of vitamin A, which protects your eyes from the impact of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Also, eating a lot of green vegetables like spinach and kale will provide a strong supply of vitamins along with a vision-protecting substance called lutein. Consume some zinc and selenium as well, they both help protect the retina, and eat some fatty acids like fish to ensure adequate moisture in your eyes.
An all-important form of eye insurance has to be protecting your eyes from smoke. To do so, rinse your eyes with clean water regularly at least once a day, try not to rub your eyes and transfer ash and dust from your hands and face into them, use lubricating eye drops or artificial tears to keep your eyes refreshed, when indoors try to keep the air as clean as possible, run your air conditioner and keep the fresh air intake cleaned and the filter clean to prevent bringing in additional smoke, avoid anything that burns, and go see an eye doctor if you have any vision problems.
Finally, the most essential part of eye insurance should be not to take your vision for granted. It’s a marvelous gift and probably the most important of the 5 senses. Take care of yourself and your vision and you’ll always see how valuable it is.
